Cyber Monday is an expression used in online retailing to describe the Monday following Thanksgiving weekend. One theory suggests that people see items in the shopping malls over the weekend and wait until Monday to buy them online, where they can compare prices. Another theory states that people have faster internet connection at work and, therefore, wait until then to make online purchases. Some people prefer Cyber Monday over Black Friday because instead of waiting on long lines and being pushed and shoved, customers can shop in the luxury of their home. The biggest online shopping day in 2011 was on Cyber Monday with over $1.25 billion in sales. 42% of consumers plan to scope out the deals on Black Friday and plan to make purchases on Cyber Monday. I think that proliferation of the internet will make brick and mortar stores obsolete over time but not anytime soon.
